Location and classification
Kirchberg is a legally demarcated single vineyard site, which is linked with Bönnigheim, Freudental, Hohenhaslach, Hohenstein, Kirchheim am Neckar and Sachsenheim. It belongs to the Großlage Stromberg in the Württembergisch Unterland area of the Qualitätsweinbaugebiet Württemberg.
Terraces and steep slopes
The section near Kirchheim am Neckar consists of terraced steep slopes above the Neckar and the Neckar loop. The documented vineyards reach up to 64 degrees. Dry-stone walls support the terraces; farming them requires significantly more manual labour than flat vineyards.
The section near Hohenhaslach is located on a mountain spur at the foot of the Stromberg and is characterised by slopes covered in vineyards.
History and wines
Vine cultivation in Hohenhaslach, one of the localities that belong to the designation Kirchberg, has been documented since 1109 in a record of the Hirsau monastery.
From the Kirchheim Kirchberg, dry Trollinger, finely-structured, semi-dry Trollinger, Trollinger Weißherbst and Riesling are documented.
