Location and landscape
Sachsenheim is a town in Baden-Württemberg in the district of Ludwigsburg and in the Stuttgart region. The municipal area extends from the loess-covered Metter plateau and the shell limestone valley of the Metter as far as the Kirbach valley and the southern foothills of the Stromberg.
Geology and districts
The vineyards of the municipal area are located on hills made of gypsum keuper and reed sandstone. The landscape is complemented by loess plateaus and the shell limestone valley. Hohenhaslach is situated on a hill spur, which is described as a foothill of the Stromberg.
Viticulture in Hohenhaslach
Viticulture has shaped the economy and landscape of Hohenhaslach for almost 1,000 years. A record in connection with Hirsau Abbey already documents viticulture there for the year 1109.
Württemberg wine origin
Sachsenheim belongs to the protected designation of origin Württemberg. A Sachsenheim wine-growing operation documents the cultivation of Trollinger, Lemberger, Muskat-Trollinger, Riesling, Weissburgunder and Donauriesling, as well as year-round manual work in the vineyards and hand-harvesting. In the cellar, temperature-controlled fermentation and a controlled biological acid breakdown are used.
