Herrenzehntel is a registered single vineyard (Einzellage) in the wine-growing region of Nahe. The official vineyard geodata assign the site to the cadastral areas of Merxheim, Simmertal and Weiler bei Monzingen.

Wine law and history

The vineyard register number for Herrenzehntel is 51 13 42. For the legal designation of the vineyard, the place name Weiler bei Monzingen is assigned. The name locally recalls historical levies or tithe obligations.

Land use

A land consolidation survey recorded 170 parcels in the Herrenzehntel area of Weiler bei Monzingen. Of these, 127 were listed for viticulture, 23 as set-aside/unused land (Brachflächen) and 20 for other uses.

Grape varieties and wine styles

Documented wines from Herrenzehntel are produced from Riesling, Grauburgunder, Weissburgunder and Spätburgunder. These include dry Riesling, dry Grauburgunder, dry Weissburgunder, dry Spätburgunder, Riesling Spätlese, as well as a dry Burgunder cuvée. A selection is made from 100% Herrenzehntel grapes and read by hand. One Grauburgunder matures in a half-ct barrel (Halbstückfass), a Spätburgunder selection in a barrique.
