Heißer Stein

Location and classification

Heißer Stein is a registered single vineyard in the Franconian quality wine-growing region, MainSüden area. The legally designated municipality is Buchbrunn; the official list of wine-growing sites also records the vineyard in the municipalities of Buchbrunn and Kitzingen within the Großlage Hofrat.

Topography and soils

The slopes are predominantly oriented to the south and south-west and have a gradient of about 15 to 25 percent. The soils consist mainly of shell limestone with loam.

Viticulture and history

The vineyard area was reported for 2019 as approximately 22 hectares. Müller-Thurgau is the most important grape variety in the site. The present-day Heißer Stein was created in 1971 by combining several smaller vineyard sites around Buchbrunn. For the wine designation, the registered site name Heißer Stein must be used together with the municipality name Buchbrunn.
