Location and classification
The Escherndorfer Fürstenberg lies in the districts of Escherndorf and Köhler in the wine-growing region Franken. The vineyard site encloses the Escherndorfer Lump and belongs to the wine landscape along the Volkach Main meander.
Aspect and relief
The site is oriented from south to south-east; in the VDP it is described as south-south-east/east. As an east-facing site, it receives less sunlight in the later ripening phase than the south-facing Escherndorfer Lump. The slope gradient is locally given as 30 to 50 percent, and in the VDP as 60 percent. Elevation is about 200 to 260 metres above sea level.
Soil and area
The documented soils consist of Upper Muschelkalk, Lettenkeuper and loess clay. For the Escherndorfer Fürstenberg, around 70 hectares are given locally; the VDP lists a classified area of 55.00 hectares.
Grape varieties and classification
At the Escherndorfer Fürstenberg, Silvaner, Scheurebe, Kerner, Bacchus, Spätburgunder and Domina are documented. As classified grape varieties, the VDP lists Silvaner, Weißer Burgunder, Chardonnay and Gelber Muskateller. The VDP classifies the site as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®.
