Location and land use
Tauberbischofsheim belongs to the region Baden and covers a municipal area of 69.29 square kilometres. 48.9 per cent of the area is used for agriculture, 32.9 per cent is woodland.
Vine growing at Edelberg
The city’s organic vineyard Edelberg covers around nine hectares and cultivates several ecological grape varieties. The slopes facing south to south-east have a gradient of about 10 to 40 per cent and are located on Muschelkalk.
The educational wine trail at Edelberg provides information about grape varieties, cultivation and wine culture. The wine-growing site was reactivated in 1934 as a municipal vineyard.
Oil cake in Dittwar
In the area of Ölkuchen in the Tauberbischofsheim district of Dittwar, a vineyard plot of twelve hectares was created during land consolidation in 1977. The site is associated with Schwarzriesling; municipal tourism material describes the wines as Schwarzriesling with a fresh fruity aroma.
City history
Tauberbischofsheim is first recorded in 836 under the name Biscofesheim. Between 1237 and 1245 the town was granted town rights.
