Location on Lake Constance
Stetten is an independent municipality in the Bodenseekreis district in Baden-Württemberg. It lies between Meersburg and Hagnau on the northern shore of Lake Constance. The open location, facing south and above the lake, shapes the municipality; vineyard slopes extend towards the shore.
Viticulture and landscape
Viticulture and fruit growing are among the important forms of use in Stetten. Large areas of vineyards cover the slopes falling towards Lake Constance. The lake evens out temperature fluctuations, stores heat and supports a longer growing season. In addition, the reflected sunlight promotes the ripening of the vines.
Stetten vineyard sites
The legally defined vineyard sites associated with Stetten include Fohrenberg and Lerchenberg. The Sängerhalde is a vineyard site shared across the municipalities of Stetten, Meersburg and Markdorf.
Grape varieties and wines
The Meersburg wine-growing cooperative supported by Stetten member businesses, among other varieties, produces Müller-Thurgau, Spätburgunder, Grauburgunder, Weißburgunder, Kerner, Chardonnay, Bacchus, Dornfelder, Muskateller and Riesling. For the Stetten Sängerhalde, dry Müller-Thurgau and medium-dry Spätburgunder are documented. The vineyards are shaped by glacial moraine gravel from the Ice Age, sandy loam and calcareous material.
