Location and orientation
The Lerchenberg is a legally recognised single vineyard in the Baden wine-growing region of Lake Constance. The permitted place names are Meersburg and Stetten. The Meersburg Lerchenberg is oriented as a hill cone from east-southeast to southwest.
Site conditions
Lake Constance influences the conditions at the site. The location is characterised by stony soils, which are linked to the glacial soils of the Lake Constance region.
Grape varieties and wine character
In the eastern half of the Meersburg Lerchenberg, Müller-Thurgau grows; on the south side, Spätburgunder. The Müller-Thurgau vines of the state winery Meersburg are over 30 years old. The wine described from this shows itself as delicately fruity and elegant, with fresh, apple-like acidity and a slender character.
History of the name
The name Lerchenberg is traced back to earlier stands of larch that were cleared for viticulture.
