Location and landscape
Oberndorf is a municipality in the Donnersberg district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It lies in the Alsenz valley, about ten kilometres north of Rockenhausen, covers 2.80 square kilometres and is situated at an altitude of approximately 170 metres. The Alsenz valley has a balanced, mild climate with lots of sunshine, as well as comparatively little rainfall and frost.
Winegrowing in Oberndorf
Oberndorf belongs to the winegrowing region Nahe. In the vineyard directory for the 2024 vintage, the sites Aspenberg, Beutelstein and Feuersteinroßel are assigned to the municipality. The municipality previously had about 30 hectares of vineyard area; today, the Oberndorf Aspenberg is farmed by a winery from outside the area.
Sites and wines
The vineyard sites include steep slopes. Beutelstein is a steep, south-facing site with deep soils weathered from sandstone, which also hold enough water during hot weather. Feuersteinroßel consists of very stony, weathered red sandstone with a medium-deep sandy loam over crumbly rock. For Feuersteinroßel, Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder and Chardonnay are documented on more than 1.5 hectares. At Beutelstein, Riesling and Roter Traminer are recorded; at Aspenberg, Riesling from vines that are nearly 50 years old.

The Simultaneum church of St. Valentin is already documented for the year 1128 and provides a historical link to the settlement.
