Location and classification
The Feuersteinroßel is an officially listed single-vineyard site in the municipality and cadastral area of Oberndorf in the wine-growing region of Nahe. It belongs to the Großlage Paradiesgarten and is recorded in the register of vineyard sites for 2024 under site number 511376.
Soil and climate
The site occupies the upper part of the Oberndorf vineyard slope. The very stony soil consists of weathered red sandstone with a medium-deep sandy loam over crumbling rock. It is also described as shallow-rooting and stony, with good heat absorption and nutrient supply. The climate in the Alsenz valley is considered balanced and mild, with plenty of sunshine as well as comparatively little rainfall and frost; the vineyards are protected from cold north and east winds.
Grape varieties and cultivation
More than 1.5 hectares are planted with Pinot Blanc (Weißburgunder), Pinot Gris (Grauburgunder) and Chardonnay in the Feuersteinroßel. For Hahnmühle wines with the origin designation Feuersteinroßel, organic viticulture and hand harvesting are documented.
Wine style and ageing
The wines from the Feuersteinroßel are described as fine, mineral, lively and fresh, with delicate Burgundy-like fruit. Documented Hahnmühle wines age for several months in stainless steel; the Pinot Gris is matured on its lees during this process.
