Location and landscape
Angelbachtal is a municipality in the Kraichgau hill country in the Rhein-Neckar district of Baden-Württemberg. The hilly landscape also includes vineyards and forms part of the wine-growing region Baden.
Winegrowing in Angelbachtal
A public circular route runs through the vineyards of Angelbachtal, on which regional wine-growing businesses present their products. Linked with the municipality are the vineyard sites Himmelberg, Kletterberg and Sonnenberg, which is also assigned to Sinsheim.
Grape varieties and ageing
For the Kraichgau, Rivaner, Riesling and Schwarzriesling are named as the leading grape varieties. A winegrowing estate from Angelbachtal also documents wines from Pinot grape varieties, Riesling and Blaufränkisch. Since 2023, the estate has been working according to Demeter guidelines. Red wines mature, among other things, in small wooden casks and barriques, while white wines are matured in stainless-steel tanks, wooden casks and a large granite vessel.
History and wine law
The municipality was formed in 1972 through the voluntary amalgamation of Eichtersheim and Michelfeld. There are documentary references dating back to the ninth century for both of the preceding settlements. As part of Baden, Angelbachtal lies in the German wine-growing zone B; as a result, higher minimum requirements apply to must weight than in other German zones.
