Kletterberg

Location and Aspect

The climbing hill is a vineyard site in Eichtersheim, a district of Angelbachtal, in the Kraichgau of the wine-growing region Baden. The site is documented as steep and south-facing.

Soil and Grape Varieties

Under the Riesling plantings on the Eichtersheim climbing hill, Keuper is documented as the subsoil. At the climbing hill, Riesling and Spätburgunder are grown; the vines used for the documented wines are in part more than 40 years old.

Cultivation

The Spätburgunder material comes from a vineyard farmed biodynamically, which for the 2022 vintage was in the transition to organic farming. For this vineyard, a reduced yield target of 40 litres per are also is documented.

Wines and Maturation

Documented are dry Riesling and dry Spätburgunder, each designated as Qualitätswein (QbA) trocken. The Riesling was produced from hand-harvested grapes with spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, followed by longer ageing on fine lees. For the Spätburgunder, a traditional whole-bunch mash fermentation was carried out in an open vessel, followed by ageing in small, used wooden barrels.
