Location in Reims
The Pommery estate and the production site of Vranken Pommery are located at 5 Place Général Gouraud in Reims in Champagne, France. The site includes underground cellars that extend about 30 metres below the earth’s surface. For bottle storage and cellar operations, gallo-Roman galleries and chalk pits are used.
History and facilities
Vranken Pommery carries Pommery as a historical brand, founded in 1836. On 1 June 2002, the company acquired the components of the Champagne house Pommery & Greno and founded Pommery S.A. A modern tank storage area with a stated capacity of 105,000 hectolitres is integrated into the historic buildings on the site in Reims.
Grape varieties and cuvée
Pommery Brut Royal is described as a traditional Champagne cuvée made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. The house also focuses on preserving the seven historic grape varieties of Champagne: Arbane, Chardonnay, Meunier, Petit Meslier, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Pinot Noir.
Style and cellar work
According to Pommery, Brut Royal has a lively, fresh and refined profile. The house produced its first Brut Nature bottles in 1874. The production site also has tirage and disgorging lines, including a special transfer and disgorging line that Vranken Pommery describes as unique in Champagne.
