Winery in Bechtheim
The Weingut Dreissigacker is located in Bechtheim in Rheinhessen. The family’s wine-growing has been documented there since 1728; the winery remains in family ownership. Jochen Dreissigacker took over the parental business and gradually modernised it.
Vineyards and soils
The vineyards are located around Bechtheim and Westhofen. The Bechtheimer sites receive a lot of sunshine and produce wines shaped by warmth, while the cooler climate in Westhofen extends ripening and supports mineral Rieslings. Geyersberg is characterised by weathered limestone and loess, Hasensprung by heavy clay with minor sand inclusions. Kirchspiel has fossil-bearing limestone and limestone gravel that stores water and nutrients; there, clear differences in temperature between day and night as well as cool westerly winds create special conditions. Morstein has a heavy marl topsoil with limestone inclusions and a water-bearing subsoil of limestone gravel.
Biodynamic viticulture
The winery cultivates its vineyards biodynamically; the conversion was completed in 2019. The documented work includes manual tasks, selective harvesting, yield reduction, its own compost, as well as horn manure and horn flint preparations.
Wines and maturation
The focus is on natural, unadulterated wines that are meant to express their origin and develop considerable ageing potential, especially with Riesling. White Pinot (Weißburgunder), Grey Pinot (Grauburgunder), Pinot Noir (Spätburgunder), Chardonnay and Silvaner are also grown. The wines from the single vineyards in Westhofen are described as mineral, clear and straight-line, while the sites in Bechtheim produce richer, more powerful and more complex styles. In the cellar, the wines are moved exclusively by gravity, are gently matured, and selected wines are stored for longer before release.
