Origin and History
Champagne Salon is based at 5–7 rue de la Brèche d’Oger in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Champagne, France. In 1905, Eugène-Aimé Salon produced the first Salon Blanc de Blancs for a personal occasion. In the 1920s, the wine was made available to a wider audience. Today, Champagne Salon belongs to the Laurent-Perrier group and is operated together with Champagne Delamotte.
Style and Origin of the Grapes
Salon is a Blanc de Blancs from a single vintage, a single cru and exclusively Chardonnay. The grapes come from Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in the Côte des Blancs. They are sourced from a single one-hectare plot, the Salon Garden, as well as 19 other smaller parcels. Salon is classified as AOC Champagne Grand Cru and as a sparkling Brut.
Selection and Maturation
Salon is produced only in vintages that are judged to be suitable for the house’s style. The selected parcels above the church in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, according to the house description, offer a balanced ratio of sugar and acidity. The description of the 2015 vintage links the aromas with a chalky character of the terroir. The wines mature on average for ten years in the house’s cellars; the winemaking processes have remained unchanged since the development of the Salon philosophy for exceptional vintages.
