Champagne Pertois-Moriset in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger

Champagne Pertois-Moriset is based in Le Mesnil-sur-Oger in Champagne, France. The family-run, independent champagne house was founded in 1951 by Yves Pertois and Janine Moriset. Today it is run by Cécile and her husband Vincent.

Vineyards and grape varieties

The 20.70-hectare vineyard portfolio is divided between the Côte des Blancs and the Coteaux Sézannais. Around 13.40 hectares are in the Côte des Blancs, which the house describes as Grand Cru and is planted entirely with Chardonnay. The roughly 7.30 hectares in the Coteaux Sézannais consist of approximately 60 per cent Pinot Noir and 40 per cent Chardonnay.

Farming and winery

In all plots, the winery uses Sexual confusion for pest control. A natural winter cover crop is left in place; in summer the soils are ploughed; chemical agents can be omitted, according to the house, under suitable conditions. Mechanical work is carried out using a fully electrically powered tracked tractor. The press centre established in 2009 has two membrane presses, temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks as well as a cellar for barrels and large wooden containers.

Selected cuvées

Les Quatre Terroirs is a Blanc de Blancs made from 100 per cent Chardonnay and comes exclusively from Grand-Cru sites in the four villages of Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Cramant and Chouilly. The cuvée is vinified in stainless-steel tanks and barrels, stored in the cellar for at least 36 months and dosed with 3 g/l. L’Assemblage Brut from the Coteaux Sézannais combines Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in equal parts. The blend contains 70 to 80 per cent wines from the vintage and 20 to 30 per cent Perpetual-Reserve wines, and matures in the cellar for at least 15 months.
