Champagne Doyard in Vertus
Champagne Doyard is based in Vertus, a village in the Côte des Blancs in Champagne in France. For four generations, the winery has referred to itself as Récoltant-Manipulant; the family has been involved in winemaking for twelve generations.
Vineyards and cultivation
The winery cultivates 11 hectares in Vertus, Le Mesnil-sur-Oger, Oger, Avize, Cramant and Aÿ. Vertus is classified as Premier Cru, while the other named sites are classified as Grand Cru. Around 10 hectares are planted with Chardonnay and 1 hectare with Pinot Noir. The areas are divided across 54 named Lieux-dits, with an average parcel size of around 0.20 hectares.
The average age of the vines is around 40 years. According to the winery, no new vines are planted; instead, each year only dead vines are replaced. The cultivation is described as environmentally oriented, with minimal use of aids, mechanical soil cultivation, permanent Cordon-Royat pruning and strict yield control.
Vendémiaire
Vendémiaire is a Blanc de Blancs Premier Cru made from 100 percent Chardonnay and a cuvée from three vintages. The vinification is carried out 40 percent in oak barrels and 60 percent in stainless-steel tanks; 20 percent undergo malolactic fermentation. Only the cuvée’s must is used, without chaptalisation. The dosage is 4 grams of sugar per litre.
Voie d’Oger
The extra brut Blanc de Blancs Voie d’Oger from the 2016 vintage was fully vinified in tank. A winery note identifies Avize as the origin of the parcel.
