Location and History
Champagne Brimoncourt is based at 84 Boulevard Charles de Gaulle in Aÿ-Champagne, France. The house produces its wines in Aÿ, in the historic heart of the Champagne wine-growing region.
Alexandre Cornot stands for the house’s current signature and direction. In 2008, he acquired the historic Édouard-Plantet printing works buildings in Aÿ and developed Brimoncourt there. The house works in historic buildings and gardens, which it describes as being almost two centuries old.
Terroir and Viticulture
The terroir of the Champagne used for the assemblage is described by Brimoncourt as being located to the north, shaped by harsh weather conditions and determined by a hillside landscape. Even the characteristics of the subsoil count among the factors that define this terroir.
The house’s selection policy promotes integrated viticulture throughout the entire cycle of the vine. It focuses on the soil and nutrition of the vines, the preservation of biodiversity, the balance of the vines, and strengthening their natural defences.
Grape Varieties and Style
Chardonnay comes from the Sézannais and the Côte des Blancs, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from the Montagne de Reims and the Marne Valley. The house’s style is described by Brimoncourt as freshness, lightness and finesse.
The Brut Régence is made up of 80 % Chardonnay and 20 % Pinot Noir and combines a fresh, rounded profile with the structure of Pinot Noir. The Brut Rosé contains 35 % Chardonnay, 40 % Pinot Noir and 25 % Pinot Meunier. The Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs from Premier-Cru and Grand-Cru sites. The Extra Brut consists of 80 % Pinot Noir and 20 % Chardonnay from six Grand-Cru villages.
Maturation
The Brut Régence is fermented in stainless-steel tanks and matures for 48 months on the bottle. The Extra Brut matures for four years in the cellar and has a dosage of 2 g/l. The 2009 vintage matured for twelve years in Brimoncourt’s chalk cellars.
