Location and History
Zügernberg is a named Gewann and vineyard site near Großheppach, which today belongs to Weinstadt in Württemberg. One producer describes Zügernberg as a high-lying vineyard site. The Gewann is documented on a historical cadastral map of Großheppach from 1832 and was recorded in 1911 and 1912 during an investigation into phylloxera control.
Grape Variety and Viticulture
At least one vineyard site of Zügernberg is planted with Silvaner. A vineyard of Doreas was in conversion to organic viticulture in 2018 and 2022. For the Silvaner of the 2022 vintage, a significant reduction in yield was documented.
Wine Style and Maturation
A dry Silvaner from the Großheppacher Zügernberg is documented. The 2018 vintage was described as neutral with a mild acidity, and the 2022 vintage as full-bodied and dry. A 2023 Silvaner was listed as a dry quality wine from defined growing areas in Württemberg and was matured in the Halbstück, a traditional half-large wooden cask.
