Location and classification
Wolfhag is a cross-community single vineyard site in the Ortenau area of the Baden wine-growing region. The site is associated with Bühl and Ottersweier and is located in the Bühler wine-growing area at the foot of the northern Black Forest.
Climate and soils
The area is characterised by a mild Ortenau climate, protection from cold easterly winds and plenty of summer sunshine. Western orographic rainfall provides additional moisture. The steep Black Forest sites have predominantly granite-weathering soils.
Relief and grape varieties
Wolfhag is described as an extensive steep-slope site. A documented parcel for a Riesling selection is oriented to the south. In addition to Riesling, Spätburgunder and Müller-Thurgau are also grown.
Cultivation and history
For a Riesling selection from old vines, yields of 50 to 60 kilograms per are and selective harvesting are documented. Historical field and tithing records from the 19th century mention Wolfhag as an independent area. According to these records, the area lay fallow until 1822; in 1831, a tithe yield was recorded there for the first time.
