Steinacker

Location and soils

Steinacker is the Hertener Steinacker wine-growing area in Herten, a district of Rheinfelden (Baden) in Baden. The south-facing slope is located on the Dinkelberg. The area has a mild climate and shell limestone soils.

Cultivation

The vineyard register comprises 6.5 hectares, of which, according to the local winegrowing association, around 2.3 hectares are planted with vines. The cultivation is carried out in an environmentally compatible manner with permanent ground cover and fertilisation that meets the requirements of water protection. The grapes are picked by hand.

Grape varieties and wines

The red grape varieties include Spätburgunder, Regent and Prior. The documented white grape varieties are Cabernet blanc, Gutedel, Johanniter, Nobling and Weißburgunder. The wine range includes Johanniter Kabinett and Prior QbA trocken. In addition, rosé is produced from Spätburgunder and Regent, as well as rosé sparkling wine from Nobling and Spätburgunder.

Single-vineyard designation and winery

Steinacker was entered in 1971, at the request of the municipality of Herten, as a single-vineyard designation in the vineyard register of the Freiburg regional council and is assigned number 327 there. The joint vinification takes place in the cellar of the Rabenfels estate; since 2007, the wines have been maturing for a substantial part in stainless-steel tanks. Sparkling wine production is carried out using the traditional Champagne method, with daily turning and riddling on riddling racks.
