Rheinfelden

Location and viticulture

Rheinfelden is situated on the Upper Rhine. The municipal area comprises broad, lower-lying river terraces and an adjacent hilly landscape. Viticulture takes place on a sunny slope facing south above the river valley. Rheinfelden belongs to the Baden region Baden.

Steinacker

The vineyard site Steinacker has a mild viticulture climate and favourable exposure to sunshine. Muschelkalk is the characteristic type of soil. The site was entered in the vineyard register in 1971 under register number 327 as a single vineyard. It covers 6.5 hectares, of which about 2.3 hectares are planted with vines.

Grape varieties and winemaking

The Steinacker has documented plantings of Spätburgunder, Regent, Prior, Cabernet blanc, Gutedel, Johanniter, Nobling and Weißburgunder. Vintage reports show that for Johanniter and Weißburgunder from the 2014 vintage, they are classified as Kabinett, and for Spätburgunder from the 2015 vintage as Spätlese. Viticulture in the surrounding area is documented as early as 1305 and 1334. Documented work includes selective hand-harvesting, permanent sward cover, environmentally appropriate cultivation, and fertilisation compatible with the requirements of water protection. The grapes are traditionally pressed; wines and sparkling wines ripen in the cellar.
