Location and Classification
The vineyard officially referred to as Günterslebener Sommerstuhl lies to the west of Güntersleben in the municipal area, on the road to Thüngersheim. The planted area comprises around 17 hectares. The Sommerstuhl forms part of the Großlage Thüngersheimer Ravensburg in Franken.
Topography and Soils
The wine growing site is located on a south-facing slope of the Eckberg. The gradient is approximately 10 to 30 percent. As a hollow-shaped site, it offers views into the Maintal. Documented soils are shelly limestone, in places with a sandy-loamy topsoil layer. The hollow is described as protection against cold easterly air; at the same time, the radiated warmth from the nearby Maintal comes into effect.
Vine Growing and Grape Varieties
The vineyards landscape is characterised by hedges, meadows, woodland, dry stone walls and further nature-friendly structures. Dry stone walls in the Sommerstuhl were restored in 2023. In a Silvaner parcel, a vine pruning is documented with a remaining shoot per vine and two short spurs.
For the Günterslebener Sommerstuhl, among others Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Silvaner, Kerner, Scheurebe, Perle, Gewürztraminer, Portugieser, Domina, Dornfelder and Regent are listed. In addition, Chardonnay and Rivaner, that is Müller-Thurgau, are documented from the site.
Name and Wine Style
The name Günterslebener Sommerstuhl was proposed by vineyard owners following the reorganisation of German wine law in 1971, and in 1972 it was submitted for entry in the vineyards register. Earlier local names were connected, among other things, with Sonnenstuhl and Sommerstühle. The wines from the site are associated with a powerful and long-lasting bouquet, which is traced back to the shelly limestone soils.
