Location and Climate
The Sommerhalde is a named vineyard site in Korb in the wine region Württemberg, on the sunny side of the Rems valley. The south-facing position, thanks to its topography, holds warm air through the summer; it is also described as a basin-like landscape. Individual Trollinger plots are located on steep hillside vineyard terrain.
Soils and Grape Varieties
For the Korb Sommerhalde, reed sandstone is documented. Producer-specific plots are also described with red marl and siliceous sandstone; a Riesling plot lies on Stubensandstein. In the site, among others, Lemberger, Spätburgunder, Zweigelt, Trollinger, Sauvignon Blanc, Muskat-Trollinger, Syrah and Riesling grow.
Cultivation and Wines
For the vineyards of Weingut Zimmerle, certified organic cultivation is documented. The vineyards for wines by Singer-Bader are farmed biologically and are Bioland-certified. From the Sommerhalde come dry red wines as well as Trollinger and Muskat-Trollinger rosé wines and a dry Sauvignon Blanc.
Harvest and Ageing
For wines from the organic winery Schmalzried, hand harvest is documented. The described cellar processes include traditional fermentation in must, spontaneous fermentation, natural sedimentation and ageing in stainless steel. A Syrah from the site matured for 18 months in a 500-litre tonneau.
