Location and Name
Seidenberg is a documented vineyard site in Mannweiler-Cölln in the Alsenz valley of the wine-growing region Nahe. The site is also referred to as Cöllner Seidenberg.
Soil and Riesling
For Riesling plots, including Cöllner Seidenberg, weathered sandstone is documented. Riesling from this site is used, among other things, for Hahnmühles Wein Alter Wingert. The wine is described as mineral, fine, elegant and rounded.
Cultivation and Maturation
The vines for the partly Cöllner Seidenberg-sourced Alter Wingert are stated to be up to 43 years old; the wine description indicates organic cultivation. Documented are hand harvest, spontaneous fermentation and clarification through sedimentation. Half of the wine matures for nine months in large casks, the other half in stainless steel.
Historical Evidence
A bibliographic record from 2011 documents a series of newspaper articles on viticulture at the Müller-Fiscus winery, which also included a contribution on Cöllner Seidenberg.
