Location and landscape
Mannweiler-Cölln is a municipality in the Donnersberg district in Rhineland-Palatinate. It lies in the Alsenz valley within the North Palatinate Highlands; the municipality includes the localities of Mannweiler and Cölln. The Alsenz is the defining river of the settlement area.
Topography and wine-growing history
The landscape of the Alsenz valley is characterised by a pronounced valley floor and, in the southern section, steep valley slopes. Sunny, dry and rocky slopes as well as historic vineyard terraces are documented. In the wider landscape, however, viticulture has largely been abandoned.
Wine-growing classification
Mannweiler-Cölln belongs to the legally defined growing area of the protected designation of origin Nahe; the delimitation expressly includes the localities of Cölln and Mannweiler. Vineyard sites associated with the municipality include Rosenberg and Seidenberg.
Rosenberg
The vineyard site Cöllner Rosenberg is characterised by a heavy soil made from sandstone weathering. In a documented plot, Riesling and Red Traminer are planted. Dry Riesling, dry Riesling with Red Traminer, and Riesling ice wine are attested.
