Römerberg is an officially registered single-vineyard site in the wine-growing region Mosel, area Burg Cochem, with the vineyard plot number 440230. The vineyard site directory lists plots in Nehren and Senheim. For Nehren, 31.1 hectares and for Senheim 31.2 hectares of planted vineyard area are recorded.

Vineyard area and grape varieties

A plot in Nehren documented by Weingut Friderichs is described as a flat site. White Pinot, Dornfelder and Rivaner are planted there.

Cultural history

Through the Nehren area of Römerberg, a culture trail leads to Roman burial chambers from the second half of the fourth century AD. At the starting point, a Roman wine-press stone from the third century is documented.

Cultivation and winemaking

Weingut Friderichs documents reduced yields, defoliation of the leaf wall to reduce the risk of rot, and selective hand-harvesting. The farming concept also includes the avoidance of herbicides and mineral fertilisers. For winemaking, gentle transport of the grapes, cold maceration, whole-cluster pressing, sedimentation for must clarification, cooled fermentation in stainless-steel vessels, and an extended period of lees ageing are described.
