Mundklingen

Location

Mundklingen is a vineyard site in Seeheim-Jugenheim between Seeheim-Jugenheim and Darmstadt. The hillside is situated below a wooded area at around 200 metres above sea level and forms part of the Hessische Bergstraße.

Soil and classification

The soils of the Seeheimer Mundklingen site are characterised by gabbro, a basic plutonic rock. Mundklingen is listed as a single site (Einzellage) of the municipality of Seeheim and is recorded without a named larger site.

Grape varieties and cultivation

For a documented wine from Seeheimer Mundklingen, Kerner, Riesling and Gewürztraminer are grown together in the vineyard. The associated plot was in the process of conversion to organic viticulture and was harvested by hand.

Vinification and wine style

The three grape varieties were read, pressed and vinified together in an old wooden cask. The wine is dry; for the stated bottling 2024, 1.7 g/l residual sugar and 6.6 g/l acid are given.
