Vines and Cultivation
The documented vineyard area comprises 2.5925 hectares. The average age of the vines is 35 years; they are trained to the Guyot method. The grape variety indicated is Pinot Noir, with a yield of 34 hectolitres per hectare.
History and Classification
The Clos de la Bussière is documented as a walled Cistercian clos and former property of the Abbey of La Bussière. Since its creation in the 12th century, it has been considered a monopole; today it is designated as the monopole of the Domaine Georges Roumier. La Bussière is an officially listed Premier Cru climat of the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation.
Wine and Maturation
The site is assigned to a red Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru. For the documented maturation, the grapes are hand-harvested and sorted, destemmed to 80 per cent and fermented with exclusively natural yeasts; during fermentation, pigeage takes place, and no enzymatic treatment is carried out. Maturation lasts 16 months in two to eight year old oak barrels, including 25 per cent new barrels. The wines are neither fined nor filtered. In youth, red and black fruit are described; Premier Crus can develop notes of wood or undergrowth as they mature.
