Climate and terrain
The vineyards, which face south to south-west, are located in sheltered basin sites and include sloping to steep sections with slopes of up to 60%. The elevation extends over around 100 metres, with individual areas reaching more than 400 metres above sea level. For the Kappelberg, a mean annual temperature of about 9.8 °C and an average annual rainfall of about 600 millimetres have been documented. Night-time cold-air streams from the nearby Schurwald contribute to freshness and the preservation of the aromas.
Soils
The soils consist of weathered Keuper, reed sandstone and Bunter marl. Their heaviness and lime content vary within the site. In the lower areas of the Kappelberg, gypsum Keuper can be found, while in the higher sections lighter formations of reed sandstone, Stubensandstein and Bunter marl occur.
History and wines
The name is derived from the Lämmle family, which owned the historical core of around three hectares for centuries. The present-day extent and shape were created through a land consolidation between 1960 and 1972. Lämmler is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE®. For the site, Riesling, Trollinger, Lemberger, Spätburgunder, Grauer Burgunder, Weißer Burgunder, Merlot and Syrah are documented, among others; the wines range from dry and gently off-dry to sweet.
