History and grape varieties
According to historical accounts, monks at the Kloster Posa were already growing wine there in the 12th century. After more than 200 years without vines, the historic vineyard was replanted in the late 1990s; the specific years given are 1998 and 1999. Linked to the site are the grape varieties Weißburgunder, Kernling, Regent, Riesling, Dornfelder and Spätburgunder.
Documented wine styles
The site has documented dry white wines such as Weißburgunder Spätlese trocken and Riesling Qualitätswein trocken. Dry Dornfelder is also documented, as is Spätburgunder Rosé in the taste styles halbtrocken and lieblich. In addition, a sweet Riesling Auslese from the Kloster Posaer Klosterberg Zeitz has been documented. For a dry Weißburgunder Spätlese, the grapes were allowed to ripen longer on the vine, picked late and then pressed and vinified in the winery.
