Kloster Posa and wine-growing history

Kloster Posa was founded in 1114 and existed as a monastery until the 16th century. As early as the 12th century, the monks cultivated vines there. After a break, the historic vineyard was replanted in 1998.

Vineyard site Kloster Posaer Klosterberg

The Kloster Posaer Klosterberg lies on the southern side of the Posa hill spur and is characterised by weathered Buntsandstein. The vineyard site is classified as a single site within the Qualitätsweinbaugebiet Saale-Unstrut. As at 31 December 2024, 1.9612 hectares were planted with vines there.

Cultivation and wines

The vineyard is cultivated by hand. Four white and three red grape varieties grow there. The winegrowing business produces red, rosé and white wines. The vineyard site is connected to the wine route along the Weiße Elster, linking the vineyard locations downstream from Zeitz.
