Location and classification
The Klepberg is a vineyard site mapped as such in Dietlingen, a district of the municipality of Keltern in the Enzkreis district of Baden-Württemberg. The vineyard area lies in the region of Baden at 48.90226° north latitude and 8.59075° east longitude.
Soils and grape varieties
For vineyard parcels on the Dietlingen Klepberg, shell limestone soils have been documented. Traditional grape varieties include Müller-Thurgau and Riesling. In the Sommerhälde section, Sauvignon Blanc is also grown; Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are also documented for parcels on the Klepberg.
Cultivation
The Klepberg wines marketed by Kelternwein are mostly harvested by hand and vinified varietally. For parcels farmed organically at the Öko-Weingut Kuckuckshof, the avoidance of herbicides, synthetic plant protection products and chemically-synthetic nitrogen fertilisers is documented. At the Klepberg, yield reduction, hand-harvesting and gentle processing of the grapes are also used; for parcels of the Förstlich Weinmanufaktur, strict yield reduction and manual work in the vineyard are also documented.
Wine style and maturation
The Klepberg wines in the Kelternwein range are mostly white wines, including Müller-Thurgau and Riesling as Qualitätswein and Kabinett. A Müller-Thurgau from the Dietlingen Klepberg has been documented as bottle-fermented sparkling wine. For wines from Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, for parcels of the Förstlich Weinmanufaktur, maturation in French barrique is documented.
