Location and landscape
Kämpfelbach lies between the hills of the Kraichgau and the northern Black Forest in Baden-Württemberg and belongs to the region Baden. The Kämpfelbach runs through both municipal districts, rises in a neighbouring municipality, and after about 12 kilometres flows into the Pfinz.
Natural features and geology
The municipal area extends from around 199.7 metres above sea level in Bilfingen and 236.0 metres in Ersingen to local elevations of approximately 303.6 and 352.3 metres. In the Kraichgau, the average annual temperatures are about 8.5 to 9.0 °C, and the annual precipitation is roughly 700 to 950 millimetres. The landscape is characterised by Muschelkalk and Keuper sediments, which are often covered by loess.
Vine cultivation and history
Historically, Kämpfelbach has been shaped by agriculture and wine-growing. Former vineyard slopes were gradually converted into residential areas. For Ersingen, records from between 1936 and 1959 document wine-growing, estimates of most harvests, deliveries of grapes and reports of grape harvests. Further documents from the years 1953 to 1972 cover, among other things, regulations for planting vines, boundary demarcations, details of grape varieties, and the registration of a vineyard site.
Klepberg
The documented Klepberg is the Dietlinger Klepberg in another municipality and therefore does not lie within Kämpfelbach. For this location, Muschelkalk soils are given, as well as traditionally Müller-Thurgau and Riesling. The wines are mostly white; they are offered as grape variety wines, including quality wine and Spätlese, and are read mainly by hand.
