Location and Classification
Hubacker is a single vineyard site in the district of Dalsheim of Flörsheim-Dalsheim in Wonnegau. It belongs to the Großlage Burg Rodenstein in Rheinhessen.
Oberer Hubacker
The south-easterly-facing area of Oberer Hubacker is classified as VDP.GROSSE LAGE. The classified area comprises 3.65 hectares and lies at an altitude of 170 to 200 metres, with a slope of 25 to 30 percent. The Donnersberg protects the area from wind and rain.
Soils and Grape Variety
The soils are described as loess, clay marl and limestone rock. The regional soil classification also specifies loess-Pararendzina with calcareous, clayey-silty loam and good water-retention capacity. Riesling is the defining and classified grape variety of the site; in Oberer Hubacker, Riesling is designated on the classified area.
Wine Style and History
The wines are associated with aromas of yellow fruit such as apple, peach, pear and citrus. Their profile is slender and refreshing, with mild acidity and medium-strong structure. The name Hubacker derives from Hufe or Hube, a historical measure of area. It was first documented in 1610 as “am Hubacker”; a Dalsheim document from 1490 records five Hufen. In 2000, the winegrowing family Keller built a 6.5-metre-high limestone tower in Hubacker.
