Location and designation
The Hofstück is the vineyard site marketed as the Mainstockheimer Hofstück in Mainstockheim in Franken. Since 1971, the entire cultivated vineyard area within the municipality has carried this designation; earlier local field names have thereby become less prominent.
Topography and geology
The south-easterly exposure shows slope gradients of around 10 to 30 percent. The documented geological subsoil consists of Muschelkalk with Keuper formations, or else Keuper overburden.
Grape varieties and wines
For wines from the Mainstockheimer Hofstück, Silvaner, Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau and Scheurebe are documented. Further plantings include Spätburgunder, Regent and Blaufränkisch. The wines are classified in German quality and Prädikat wine categories, including dry Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau Kabinett and Bacchus Kabinett.
History and winegrowing
Winegrowing in Mainstockheim has been documented since 1136, when the Cistercian monastery of Ebrach set up a winery there. The historical field name Am Hofstück appears in the Ebrach Hofmeisterbuch from 1355. Today, winegrowing is carried out by several local producers, including Burrlein, Düchtel, Henftling and Knott.
