Location and terrain
Höll is a named vineyard site near Obereisenheim in the Franconian wine-growing region. It stretches along the slope above the settlement towards Untereisenheim and borders the vineyards of the Untereisenheim Sonnenberg. The site includes documented steep slopes on the hillside.
Soil and grape varieties
Shell limestone has been documented as the characteristic soil. Local descriptions also mention stony, heat-storing limestone rock. At the Höll, among others, Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Chardonnay, Portugieser, Domina, Regent and Zweigelt are grown; Silvaner is one of the important plantings.
Wines and history
The site is used for white and red wines. Bottlings from Silvaner, Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau, Spätburgunder and Domina are documented, among others. Silvaner has been recorded in Obereisenheim as early as 1659 and remains closely associated with the Höll.
Cultivation
Several wineries from the municipality of Eisenheim cultivate plots in the Höll. One winery working there states that it harvests its wines in its own cellar, presses them and matures them there, with gentle processing serving to preserve fruit and freshness.
