Location and classification
The Höll is a legally registered vineyard site in the district of Obereisenheim in the municipality of Eisenheim in the wine-growing region Franconia. It lies above Obereisenheim on the Volkach Main loop and extends along the slopes above the Main valley.
Relief and soils
The vineyard landscape rises from the Main valley to the higher Franconian plateau. The Höll also includes steep sections of vineyard. While in Eisenheim shell limestone and Keuper clay are named as the most important vineyard soils, the Höll is locally particularly associated with shell limestone.
Cultivation and wines
The site is farmed by several wine-growing estates in the municipality of Eisenheim. From the Obereisenheimer Höll, both white and red wines are documented, including Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Weissburgunder, Spätburgunder and Domina.
Legal and historical references
The Bavarian vineyard register lists the Höll for Eisenheim-Untereisenheim and Eisenheim-Obereisenheim in the area of the Volkach Main loop and within the Großlage Kirchberg. Obereisenheim is also the place where the oldest documented mention of Silvaner in Franconia comes from: on 5 April 1659, 25 Silvaner vine shoots were sent from there to Castell.
