Location and classification
The Hintere Klinge is a vineyard site in Endersbach within Weinstadt in the wine-growing region Württemberg. The VDP classifies the Endersbach Hintere Klinge as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®; the classified area comprises 5.16 hectares.
Historical evidence
The plot name Hintere Klinge is documented on a historical cadastral map of the area around Endersbach, Beutelsbach and Strümpfelbach dating from 1832. A description of Endersbach published in the 19th century referred to the Vorder Klinge and the Hintere Klinge at that time as the best vineyard slopes in the area.
Grape varieties and wines
As classified grape varieties, the VDP lists Lemberger and Chardonnay. In addition, Karl Haidle is documented as producing a dry Trollinger red wine from the 2015 vintage from the Endersbacher Hinteren Klinge.
Cultivation and maturation
For its vineyards in the Endersbach sites Hintere Klinge and Wetzstein, the winery Schwegler describes permanent cover cropping, high vine density, short pruning, fertilisation according to need, and reduced plant protection without insecticides for several years. In addition, there is regular yield reduction and a variety-specific time of picking. The wines are gently pressed, fermented under control, and matured in stainless steel tanks, wooden barrels and barriques.
