Himmelsbühl is a vineyard site in Sand a.Main in Franconia. The site lies on the south slope of the Hermannsberg and belongs to the Franconian Großlage Zeiler Kapellenberg.
Relief and soils
The vineyards face south, west and south-west. The historic field name refers to a treeless hill. Himmelsbühl comprises 8.79 hectares and is characterised by Keuper as well as loamy soils.
Grape varieties and wine style
For Himmelsbühl, among others, Müller-Thurgau, Grüner Silvaner, Bacchus, Kerner, White Burgundy, Blauer Portugieser, Domina, Regent, Dornfelder and Müllerrebe (Schwarzriesling) are documented. Descriptions of the site link the wines to a fruity bouquet and a piquant taste shaped by the location and soil.
Importance for Sand a.Main
Himmelsbühl and Kronberg are regarded as the most important vineyard sites in the municipality. Together they cover more than 20 hectares, cultivated by 39 winegrowers. For a documented Himmelsbühl wine by winemaker Jürgen Hofmann, a dry Regent Barrique ageing is evidenced.
