Location and classification
Himmelreich is a single-vineyard site in the Zeutern cadastral area of the municipality Ubstadt-Weiher in Kraichgau. It belongs to the wine-growing region with a protected designation of origin Baden and to the Großlage Mannaberg. In the official vineyard register, the parcels 12146/000 and 13332/000 are listed for Zeutern. In the wine-law documentation, Himmelreich is also recorded together with Zeutern and Stettfeld within the Großlage Mannaberg.
Soil and exposure
A documented core parcel of the Zeutern Himmelreich has a slope inclination of around 20 percent and a south-west exposure. The soil contains marl clay in three stages of weathering, with a clay content of approximately 40 percent. The marl clay layer may be only a few centimetres thick over a limestone mass.
Grape varieties and wine style
From the Zeutern Himmelreich, wines made from Riesling and Lemberger are documented. These include a dry Riesling and a dry Lemberger. The described core parcel is planted with old vines and achieves very low yields.
Documented cellar practice
For a 2019 Zeutern Himmelreich Riesling, manual harvesting, a gravity-fed transfer and maturation in 500-litre tonneaux are documented.
