Location and landscape
Ubstadt-Weiher lies at the transition between the Upper Rhine Plain and the Kraichgau in the region Baden. The municipality comprises the localities Ubstadt, Weiher, Stettfeld and Zeutern. The landscape includes the hilly Kraichgau plateau, which reaches a height of about 200 to 300 metres in the surrounding area.
Climate and soils
The Kraichgau around Ubstadt-Weiher has a mild climate with moderate rainfall. The soils and geological conditions vary between fluvial sand deposits in the Rhine plain, stony Keuper soils and deep, fertile loess soils. The region is characterised by Muschelkalk and Keuper layers with extensive loess covering.
Vine-growing in Zeutern
In Zeutern, vine-growing has been documented since about 1150; the municipality refers to the locality as a wine-growing place. A wine education trail runs through the Zeutern vineyards and provides information at ten stations about cultivation. The individually recorded sites at local level include Himmelreich and Weinhecke.
Formation of the municipality
Ubstadt and Weiher joined together on 1 April 1970. Stettfeld was added on 1 September 1971, and Zeutern followed on 1 January 1972.
