Location and Classification
Himmelreich is an officially registered single-vineyard in the wine-growing region of Württemberg. The area described in the facts is located around Siebeneich and Langenbeutingen in the municipalities of Bretzfeld and Langenbrettach.
Topography and Soils
The vineyards near Siebeneich are on a sunny slope facing south, below higher sites that are covered with woodland. The vineyards near Langenbeutingen are on sun-exposed slopes to the south-west of the town. As geological substrate, Keuper formations are documented, predominantly gypsum Keuper.
History and Cultivation
Winegrowing in Siebeneich has been documented since 1335. After taking over the family agricultural business in 1980, Richard Weihbrecht began processing the grapes from the Himmelreich site himself. For cultivation, cover crops, site-appropriate fertilisation, herbicide-free plant protection and yield regulation are mentioned. The estate is in the process of converting to organic cultivation and is a member of Ecovin.
Grape Varieties and Wine Style
From the area, among others, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Trollinger, Lemberger, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Muscaris and Merlot are cultivated. The documented dry Riesling S from Himmelreich is a dry wine with 3.8 g/l residual sugar and 6.6 g/l acidity; 40 per cent is fermented on the mash.
