Location and Surroundings
Heiligenberg is a vineyard site in Klepsau, a district of Krautheim in the wine-growing region Baden. The vineyards cover around 30 hectares and are connected to the Jagst valley.
Soils and Grape Varieties
The vineyard site is associated with shell limestone soils. For Heiligenberg, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus and Schwarzriesling are documented.
Documented Wine Styles
A Klepsau Heiligenberg Bacchus is a delicately sweet, white quality wine with a fruity and aromatic character. The also delicately sweet Schwarzriesling is a red quality wine with a ruby-red colour, a soft, mild acidity, and aromas of sour cherries and red berries.
History of Winegrowing
The Klepsau winegrowers’ cooperative was founded in 1950, and the local wine cellar was built in 1953. In 1955, with voluntary helpers, the cooperative built an irrigation facility in the main vineyard site Heiligenberg. Historically, the grapes were pressed in the Klepsau cellar and the wines were filled into Bocksbeutel bottles.
