Location and landscape
Krautheim is a town in the Hohenlohe district in Baden-Württemberg and lies on both sides of the Jagst. The municipal area ranges from about 210 to 420 metres above sea level. The municipality includes the wine-growing village of Klepsau with steep vineyard slopes on the valley sides.
Winegrowing in Klepsau
Klepsau belongs to the wine-growing region Baden. Winegrowing has been documented there for around 800 years. The Heiligenberg covers around 30 hectares; Müller-Thurgau and Schwarzriesling are recorded as important grape varieties. The wines are described as fresh and fruit-forward.
Historical development
Krautheim was granted town rights in 1307. Old Krautheim was first mentioned in 1096. Klepsau was incorporated into the town of Krautheim in 1971.
Cellar operations
The Klepsau winegrowers’ cooperative, Bezirkskellerei Jagst, was founded in 1950. The construction of its wine cellar followed in 1953; in 1969 it merged with the Beckstein winegrowers’ cooperative.
