Site and Landscape
Hasennestle is a single vineyard site in the Tauber valley near Tauberzell, a district of Adelshofen in the Ansbach district in Bavaria. The steep, exposed vineyard site is oriented to the south to south-west. Historically documented vineyard areas include Unterer Tauberweg, Berge and Untere Setzberge.
Soil and Climate
The location is described as a cool, climatically marginal wine-growing site with warm days and cool nights. The Muschelkalk bedrock site has stony loam and a gravel-containing topsoil layer.
History and Cultivation
The vineyard areas were already being cultivated in the 13th century. In earlier times, dry-stone walls and larger heaps of field stones shaped the landscape. After the decline of historical viticulture, the documented areas were replanted in 1983 and 1984. For one parcel, vines from the year 1984 are specified, a row width of 1.60 metres and ongoing renewal of about 10 to 15 percent of the stock.
Grape Varieties and Wine
From Hasennestle, wines made from Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Johanniter and Silvaner, as well as the red-wine cuvée Roter Wengert, are documented. A dry Müller-Thurgau is harvested by hand into small crates and strictly selected. Fermentation takes place cool with pure-culture yeast in stainless steel at around 17 °C; afterwards the wine is matured reductively. A wine from the Tauberzell Hasennestle was marketed as Taubertäler Landwein.
