Location and Landscape
Goldberg is a vineyard site that is connected with Fellbach and Kernen im Remstal. It is one of the two named vineyard sites on the Kappelberg and lies on its side facing the Remstal. The Fellbach Goldberg is oriented to the south-east, lies at about 240 to 280 metres above sea level, and has a slope of around 30 percent.
Climate and Soils
The wine-growing region of Fellbach, including the Kappelberg sites, has a mean annual temperature of just over 9.8 °C. For the Goldberg, Bunter Mergel, siliceous sandstone and Keuper marl gypsum are documented. The soils are also described as deep-rooting and shaped by Keuper and Bunter Mergel; in the mornings and afternoons there is strong sunshine exposure.
Grape Varieties and Wine Styles
On the Goldberg, Riesling, Spätburgunder, Chardonnay, Lemberger and Sauvignon Blanc are documented. A Goldberg Riesling from Fellbach is listed as a quality wine with the taste specification feinherb (off-dry). Other documented wines include dry Spätburgunder from used Tonneau casks, dry Chardonnay from wood, as well as a dry Riesling with ripe yellow fruit and a creamy texture.
Classification and Ageing
In the wine-growing region of Württemberg, the Fellbach Goldberg is classified as VDP.ERSTE LAGE®. For wines from the Heid winery, including wines from the Fellbach Goldberg, work in the vineyard and during the harvest is carried out by hand. A Goldberg Riesling from this winery underwent spontaneous fermentation and matured for a longer period in the cellar.
