Eselsberg

Location and size

Eselsberg is a single vineyard site in the municipality of Kitzingen in the wine-growing region Franken. According to the wine-growing area register from 1993, the vineyard covers an area of 4.5 hectares.

Topography and geology

The site, which faces south-west, has a slope gradient of approximately 45 percent. Muschelkalk and Lettenkeuper are documented as the geological subsoils.

Grape varieties and classification

Silvaner and Kerner are documented as the most important grape varieties of Eselsberg. The single vineyard site has existed for several centuries, is assigned to the Großlage Kitzinger Hofrat, and lies in the MainSüden area of the wine-growing region Franken.

Cultivation

For vineyard parcels at Kitzinger Eselsberg, organic viticulture is documented. In a reported project, guano from local colonies of the greater mouse-eared bat was used as an organic fertiliser.
