Location and Classification
Eherieder Berg is a registered vineyard site in the municipality of Kitzingen, in the district of Eherieder Mühle. The site belongs to the wine-growing region MainSüden and is listed in the Bavarian vineyard register. Its designation can be used as a geographical indication for quality wine and Prädikatswein.
Soil and History
As the subsoil of the wines designated as Eherieder Berg, shell limestone (Muschelkalk) is documented. In the Eherieder Mühle winegrowing operation, the first vines were planted in 1968. Subsequently, the name Kitzinger Eherieder Berg was entered into the vineyard register by the founder’s wife.
Grape Varieties and Viticulture
For wines with the designation Eherieder Berg, Silvaner as well as Dornfelder and Domina are documented. Regent is also listed as another grape variety in a cuvée, whose grapes come predominantly from the site. Documented work includes winter pruning, tying up the fruiting shoots, partial removal of leaves after flowering, loosening the soil and fertilisation, as well as a low use of plant protection products. The harvest is carried out mostly mechanically, while in smaller vineyards it is traditionally done by hand.
Cellar Work
In the winery, the grapes are gently pressed, the must is clarified by flotation, and fermented in stainless-steel tanks. A documented Eherieder Berg Silvaner was hand-harvested, pressed directly, and matured in wood as well as stainless steel. A red Pét-Nat from the site was fermented spontaneously, bottled unfiltered and without added sulphites.
