Location and classification
Edelfrau is a named vineyard site in Homburg am Main within the municipality of Triefenstein in Bavaria. The official Bavarian vineyard site list assigns it to the Main Himmelreich and Triefenstein, Homburg am Main area.
Topography
The Homburg Edelfrau is a steep slope facing south-west with more than 65 percent incline. The vineyard site covers around five hectares and has slope gradients of 60 percent or more.
Varieties and wines
Silvaner, Kerner, White Pinot (Pinot blanc) and Spätburgunder (Pinot noir) are documented for the site. Dry Silvaner, dry Riesling and dry Spätburgunder Blanc de Noir are attested. In addition, a Riesling Kabinett feinherb with 11.5 percent alcohol from the Homburg Edelfrau was documented.
Name and cultivation
The name Edelfrau is attributed to noblewomen who lived in Homburg. For the harvest, the use of a self-propelled steep-slope harvester has been documented, which was secured with a steel rope; this was the first use of such a machine in the site.
